Message Monday

Lost but not forgotten

On our message this week, there are no quips or puns or funny sayings, just the heartfelt thoughts of those who have lost loved ones on Iowa’s roadways.

It’s never easy to say goodbye. How much more difficult is it to cheerfully say “goodbye” to a loved one as they leave for work or school, only to have those be the last words you share. Time may seem to stand still as the future you had planned is altered in an instant.

But your behavior behind the wheel can lessen your chances of an unexpected goodbye through the loss of life in a vehicle crash. Do your part by:

  • Slowing down.
  • Driving sober.
  • Focusing on the task of driving.
  • Making sure you are well rested before driving.
  • Buckling up.

The fatality count of 225 is an increase of 13 since last Monday. In all of 2016, 404 people were killed on Iowa highways. To see statistics published daily by the Office of Driver Services, go to the daily fatality report at https://www.iowadot.gov/mvd/stats/daily.pdf
