I pity the fool who drives distracted

What’s the first thing you think of when you see someone on their phone behind the wheel? Does it make you irritated, maybe even a little angry?

In the line made famous by Mr. T in Rocky III, we “Pity the fool” who drives distracted. Not only is that person putting themselves in danger, but also increasing the likelihood of a crash for those on the road around them.

Distractions come in many forms, from the very obvious driver looking down and interacting with their phone instead of focusing on the road to the person enjoying a cheeseburger behind the wheel or the mom trying to quell a disagreement between her children in the backseat.

Make no mistake, anything that takes your complete attention off the task of driving is a distraction that could result in a crash.

Research shows drivers often overestimate their ability to multitask. https://www.nytimes.com/video/technology/1194841442782/distracted-drivers.html
